This is not something I had given much thought to till I read this article. Most of the proverbs in the old testament were written by David. David and Jesus are the most important figures in the Old and New Testaments, so it is interesting that they have proverbs in common.

I think proverbs are glib epithets designed to reinforce what we already “know”, but which we know, may or may not actually be true.

It’s all memetics… sound-bites in the service of vaguer meme-plexes that we like to think of as morality.
