May I add one: Reward.
Reward can be lots of things:
- just the egolift of being the one to spread a video
- or a real world discount voucher
- a backlink
In today's twittered world, the backlink and automated back-following are very popular rewards with bloggers and micro-bloggers.

Excellent article, I think Microsites such as Twitter are particularly conducive to spreading viral marketing.

The real-time nature in which they operate and the Receptiveness of the community to new ideas means that they can spread ideas even quicker.

What great information for those of us still gaining a greater understanding of how best to put Social Media and Networking to good use in spreading viral content.

The tips for the criteria viral content should meet are also very useful, particularly with regard to permanence and trust - which I believe are both essential in managing one's online reputation.

Trust is often overlooked by those just looking to create viral content's version of "the pet rock", rather than building a rapport with a core audience and then asking that audience to participate in spreading your content (like notifying Twitter followers of new blog posts and requesting retweets, etc).
