Very interesting definitions and examples. There is also a kind of gossip, and this may be a female pattern, where individuals welcome a newcomer by telling her stories about the past behavior of others in the group - to orient her to the structure and patterns of the group and help her fit in.It is neither house-talk, scandal or bitching, although it may contain elements of those, and it's more than chatting. In some web communities, people will answer questions from "newbies" but that's not really the same as the orienting gossip, IMHO.

Social media is an attention mill,
The wheels spin and spin and one tries to be in the spot light at all times. It is very easy to forget who your friends and followers really are and elavate one self above the fold...

By being Numero Uno, one isolates themselves from what is real. Once there it is just a precipice!

Dan you really know your stuff!

Here is a nasty example to gossip that you are talking about!

I will refer to scandal, as I have been banned by a community billing themselves as Activists....

I was invited to the comunity by a special invitation, but as I introduced myself they Banned me!
