The last few weeks have been kind of hectic for me, so its taken me longer than I’d wanted to update TweetSuite, but I’ve uploaded a new version with some bugfixes and a few new features.
If you’re using and like TweetSuite, please consider voting for me in the Shorty Awards.
The fixes include:
- AutoTweeting only on New Posts
- Max TweetBacks to display works now
- TweetBacks retrieval was optimized and made much faster
And the new features include:
- Ability to add a prefix to AutoTweets
- A function that allows you to place the Tweet-This button anywhere in your template (inside the WP loop)
The Tweet-This button will appear wherever you place this code:
<?php tweetsuite_tweetthis_button(); ?>
Again, this is still pretty beta stuff and there are a few more issues I have to work out before I consider this to be verion 1.0, so please, bear with me. I also intend to work on better documentation for the next version.
Download the updated version here.

Hi Dan,
Thank you for your work. I will upgrade in the next minutes, but I wanted to say I’m already quite satisfied with your plugin.
Keep up the good work!
January 21st, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Looks like bit.ly links still aren’t working. Any idea on when you might fix this?
January 21st, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Automated upgrades for those of us who already have TweetSuite running?
January 21st, 2009 at 3:01 pm
Have yet to install your plugin Dan, but the features continue to stack up :] I’d love to see one feature, though, exclusion of your own Tweets in the TweetBacks. So far, I see you are listed as a TweetBack three times for this particular blog post.
January 21st, 2009 at 4:11 pm
For some reason, when I click on the Tweet button or the “be the first to tweet this” button it doesn’t work. It just reloads the page. When I mouse over your button, the status bar shows me that the link points to twitter, where mine do not. They just point to the permalink of the post.
I don’t know what’s up.
January 21st, 2009 at 4:19 pm
Sorry for another off topic post. You’re welcome for the cheating info and I question Shorty’s claim of an audit. I alerted them via an @ tweet from a one time use account (“tester” something) about a half hour before alerting you.
Good Luck.

Sorry dude, still doesn’t work on my blog:

I will give you a shorty vote in advance for getting this potentially dandy plugin working…

Would love to see other urls beside Tinyurl to be shown. please say you have this in the works
January 22nd, 2009 at 8:48 am
Only works on posts published after the plugin is installed. Viewing a post which was published before the plugin installed causes the links to fail (link back to the same page). Is there any way to ‘retro fit’ older posts?
January 22nd, 2009 at 11:19 am
Dan, I heart the plugin a lot. Quick question: With both this and the previous beta, I’ve gotten the following warning at the top of the TweetSuite options page.
Warning: mktime() expects parameter 1 to be long, string given in /home/[blahblahblah]/TweetSuite/TweetSuite.php on line 1047
In the previous version it was line 9xx. Is this normal?
January 22nd, 2009 at 3:08 pm
Hey there- I’m having the same problem- the TweetThis links do not work on any posts PRE-Tweetsuite install- however, it seems to function just fine on all posts created AFTER installation. I also tried rebuilding permalinks to see if that helped- but no luck. The plugin is pretty cool when it works though.
January 22nd, 2009 at 5:35 pm
Feature Request:
Manual placement of Tweetbacks- instead of at the end of “the_content” allow user to put it anywhere in the loop.
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:54 am
Your plugin is awesome… keep up the great work!
January 24th, 2009 at 1:11 am
Only Tinyurl at this point, correct? Not fetching bit.ly and is.gd, etc?
January 24th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
This is an awesome plugin Dan – great work.
I would recommend cli.gs instead of tinyurl or any of the others. IMHO
January 24th, 2009 at 11:29 pm
I voted for you
January 25th, 2009 at 2:51 am
I have the same problem reported by others. The Tweet This link and button are taking me back to the same post page.
January 26th, 2009 at 11:25 am
Looks like a fantastic plugin, but unfortunately I can’t get either TweetSuite or Tweetbacks to work (tried both).
With TweetSuite, the tweetbacks aren’t showing up at all even though I’ve enabled them, and the widgets don’t show recent tweets or most tweeted, even though people have twittered about my blog posts. Also, like Jeff at Go Media reported, clicking on the Tweet button doesn’t work; it simply reloads the page. I’ve uninstalled the plugin for now, but any ideas why it’s not working?
I’d appreciate any help, I’d LOVE to have this plugin work properly, it seems awesome.
January 26th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Any chance you could add support for other URL shortening services? Looks like TinyURL has been down on and off today and yesterday..
January 27th, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Love the plugin!! I have it installed and really want to activate it permanently but will wait to see if the next update includes a fix so it applies retroactively. Please please please say that fix is coming!
January 29th, 2009 at 3:44 am
Looks great – would still like to see:
1) Open _blank setting
2) Ability to add to front page posts – not just single postings
Cheers!
January 30th, 2009 at 5:03 pm
Yes, great plugin! Voted for you! But, as other have expressed, would be great to see:
1) A fix for the tweet this button for pre-tweetsuite-install posts;
2) Tweet-this opens in another window or tab option;
3) Ability to put the tweet this button on the home page posts.
Thanks for a great plugin!

I’m wondering how long it takes for a Retweet to appear on the TweetBack stats.. I posted this article ( http://www.vizworld.com/2009/01/a-1474-megapixel-inauguration-photo/ ) on January 23th and your TweetSuite plugin auto-tweeted it just fine ( http://twitter.com/VizWorld/status/1142041555 ).
It was retweeted yesterday (http://twitter.com/gelal/statuses/1162266219 , Thanks to @ta_replies for telling me) and I still see “No tweetbacks” on my site.
January 31st, 2009 at 11:59 pm
I love the idea of this plug-in and have seen it working on other sites! I installed the plug-in, but when I activate it, it does something odd to my sidebars so that when you view a single post, they don’t show on the right side like usual, but instead at the bottom, underneath the post. I also don’t see the ‘Tweet this’ button at all. I’ve de-activated it for now, but would love to know how to fix this!
February 1st, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Thank you for this very nice plugin, Dan.
I would also be very happy to see Armando’s requirements addressed, so that any of my “older” posts may be tweeted. When you have a little time…
February 1st, 2009 at 2:33 pm
I’ve just updated the plugin and Tweet-This button’s still don’t appear in my new posts! Is this normal?
Also, with version 0.5 my new blog posts were correctly being tweeted after selecting that option in the settings. Not any more with version 0.6!
Hope you’ll look into this pretty soon, coz I voted for you!
February 1st, 2009 at 2:56 pm
STRANGE!! The Tweet-This button only appears after clicking on the title of a blog post!
February 1st, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Just installed the plugin, checked the option to have the tweet-this button float right, only nothing shows up. I may have left something out, what does it hook into to place the button?
February 9th, 2009 at 11:26 am
Dan,
Great plug-in! I’ve been using it since you released it.
A lot of people have been recommending the ability to select-your-own URL shortening service when you launch TweetSuite 1.0.
If you do that, please consider including Tweetburner/Twurl as one of the options – I like that it integrates click data in addition to URL shortening.
Thx!
February 10th, 2009 at 12:34 am
Any news on when or if there will be a fix for the tweet this button for pre-tweetsuite-install posts as well as for the tweet icon at the top of the posts?
They just link back to my post.
This is a major draw back.
February 10th, 2009 at 9:44 am
Hi, I’m wondering why you haven’t published this (and tweetback) awesome plugin on http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins ?? WP 2.7 has a nice auto-update functionality which doesn’t force me to revisit sites to get the latest release… pretty handy
BTW, someone else already published tweetback.. and probably gets credit (and cash?) for it..
February 12th, 2009 at 4:14 pm
Any update as to when this will support posts PRE-installation? Or at least have the “tweet this” link removed so it doesn’t just reload?
February 19th, 2009 at 11:23 am
you should add this plugin to wordpress plugins directory. Would be a lot easier to install and update.
February 21st, 2009 at 1:02 pm
I still can’t get the plugin to show a Settings page with my WP 2.7.1 install on Bluehost, so I can’t use it. Am I missing something?
February 26th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Dan, great plug-in – I love the interface & the unique options!
Unfortunately, my tweets are not updating, and I’m seeing the following database error in my logs:
WordPress database error You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘ ”,\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t”,\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t”,\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t’http://twitter.com/home?status=+’ at line 1 for query replace INTO wp_shorturls (postID, tinyurl, bitly, snipurl, tweetthis, accessed) VALUES (, ”,\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t”,\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t”,\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t’http://twitter.com/home?status=++from:+@mikelaurence’\t,\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t1235666046\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t) made by do_action_ref_array, call_user_func_array, tweetsuite_5mins, decodeShortURLs
Hopefully that helps with your mission to Squash All Bugs
February 27th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
I’d love to see the tweet open in a new window so the reader can twitter the post and still stay on my site. Any way to add the target=_blank????
February 27th, 2009 at 6:42 pm
Also, the Tweet This logo isn’t showing up on the front page, only when a person clicks through to display the whole post. Most people won’t click on the title, they just read from the front page. Can it be shown in the post on the front page please?
March 15th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Is there a page or site that handles all these request or are we on our own?
The plugin is cool but like everyone else my older post don’t work with the plugin alos I my button works but the count doesn’t change nore do the tweetbacks, please help!
March 20th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
@Everyone:
I have been working on integrating the ability to post through ping.fm into the TweetSuite plugin, and now fixing the issue with Tweetbacks showing up on the pages (or rather, in the database).
So far, I’ve seen 5 major feature requests from everyone:
#1 Include ability to use other URL Shortening services
#2 Open Tweet-This in a new window
#3 Auto Update
#4 Retro-active Tweet-This capability
#5 Tweet-This on the homepage
I’ve already fixed #2 with what I’m working on. Once I get finished with the main ones I started on, I’ll give Dan the code to check out, and push out another release.
Sometime this weekend, I’ll post more about what I’m doing over at http://www.thepizzy.net/blog (since this is not my blog :-p)
March 20th, 2009 at 5:00 pm
Hey CAC and anyone else tempted to leave a question about this plugin here for Dan, don’t bother.
Scroll up and you’ll see he hasn’t answered one single question in this post comments thread – it’s March 20th now – so 3 months.
YOYO – You’re On Your Own…

Actually Rick, that’s not entirely true; there is a GetSatisfaction page for TweetSuite out there: http://getsatisfaction.com/tweetsuite/products/tweetsuite_tweetsuite
March 27th, 2009 at 11:17 am
nice plugin. works well and very smooth. no errors so far. have you thought about adding it into the wordpress plugins site? i think then we could all update automatically with 2.7. Just a thought.
Cheers!

Hi there, works very well but I cant seem to get tweetbacks to work for some reason? Any ideas on this?
April 28th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Hi Dan,
cool stuff! I am working on my blog and this is simply an amazing addition. I am seeing a few issues though, perhaps because of my blog’s configuration:
1) I can’t see any “Tweet this” like buttons, once installed and activated the updated version of the plugin linked to in this page.
2) Is it possible to make “No Tweetbacks Yet” appear at the bottom of the post?
3) “Be the first to Tweet this post” sometimes links to the post itself, sometimes to Twitter passing the status. I think I read others’ comments above about the same.
4) I tried to tweet some test posts (when the “Be the first to Tweet this post” correctly links to Twitter), but I can’t see any tweetbacks.
5) The “My tweets” widget doesn’t seem to get updated.
For the 4) and 5), how often does the plugin automatically update the data?
Sorry for the many questions, but I’d really love to see this plugin working on my new blog!
Many, many thanks in advance.
May 14th, 2009 at 9:32 am
Like others I noticed the the “Tweet This” was only working for new posts. On existing pages the url for the “Tweet This” button is the url for the current post. However, If I unpublish and re-publish a blog post, the url gets built for twitter.
July 4th, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Love the plugin, but I’ve unfortunately had to disable it. I was testing it out and enabled the show retweets, and subsequently, due the formatting of those on single pages, disabled it. However, the plugin does now not recognise the fact that I’ve disabled it and is still displaying it. All I want is to just tweet when I have publish a new blog post

Thanks for the great plugin Dan, the best Twitter one I've found.
i'm trying to find a way of directly embedding the “My tweets” without using the Widget. So, by using PHP directly to emded.
Is this possible?
Thanks for any help

I am guessing this plugin is dead as far as development and support goes? I haven't seen anything from the author in over a year.
